Milk

Much-loved Melbourne folk band Milk has reformed with renewed energy, driven by their love for each other, their songs, and their audience. 

The folk band was born from a meeting of voices and minds at La Trobe University’s long gone music department. For 10 years they toured the country playing songs that interrogate love and grief, land and water, and people and politics. They are inhabited by pirates and prospectors, asylum seekers and adventurous women, dancing couples and barflies.Their original songs are written by Helen Begley and co-written with Emily Hayes. 

Their arrangements feature Helen’s rhythm guitar and deep vocals that feed and shape the understory of the outfit. Emily Hayes’ voice washes into your soul like a lush forest stream. Greg Craske's double bass lines evoke an inner city speakeasy dropped into the middle of a starlit field and Poppy Turbiak's spare electric guitar provides a sonic canopy like the expanse of an old growth tree.

This band is fun, energetic, generous and warm, offering an open invitation to folk audiences to sing, clap, laugh, cry and dance. Milk is nourishment for your soul!
